SMS Opt-outs

SMS
People who get your marketing texts can opt out with one tap. Their number goes on your Opt-outs list, and your marketing campaigns skip it from then on. You can also add numbers yourself, import a list, export it, and resubscribe someone who asks.
Navigate: Opt-outs

How people opt out

  • Every Marketing campaign message ends with a line such as Opt out https://unsb.app/k7m2p9qa. The link is different for each person and can be tapped on iPhone and Android.
  • The page shows your sender name and the person's number, partly hidden, with an Unsubscribe button. Nothing happens until they press it.
  • After pressing it, they see a confirmation that you won't send them marketing SMS again. Opening the link again shows the same confirmation.
  • Their number appears on your Opt-outs list straight away, marked Opt-out link, with the campaign it came from.
💡
Service messages still go through. Opting out only stops Marketing campaigns. Transactional campaigns and messages from Send SMS are still delivered, and the opt-out page tells people this.

The Opt-outs page

Go to Opt-outs. The list shows each number, when it opted out, how (Opt-out link (1), Added by hand or Imported) and the campaign, if there was one.

Numbers starting with 0

A number starting with 0, such as 0491 570 006, is read as a number in your business's country. For a number in another country, type the full number with its country code, for example +64 21 123 4567.

Importing a list

  • The file can be CSV or Excel, up to 2 MB and 20,000 rows.
  • In Excel, format the number column as Text before entering numbers, or Excel drops the leading 0.

⚠️
Only resubscribe people who asked. Sending marketing SMS without consent breaks the Spam Act 2003.

Opted out contacts in address books

A contact whose number is on your Opt-outs list shows a red Opted out badge in the address book. They stay in the address book, but marketing campaigns skip them.
